Slough Futsal Festival

On Thursday 24th October, Montem Leisure Centre hosted the first Yr 5&6 Futsal competition for Slough's primary schools. The event was run by Slough School Sport Network, in conjunction with xSport Coaching, MARS in the Community futsal coaches.

Fifteen teams from across thirteen schools (130 children) were in attendance at the event, a fantastic turnout for the first futsal event of this kind. The first part of the day saw all children involved in an hour and a half long coaching session lead by XSport and MARS coaches, supported by four Yr 13 students from Langley Academy. The children learnt some new skills and drills, culminating in a little game play.

After a short break, the competition began! The schools were split into 3 pools of 5 teams, with each school taking part in 4 mini matches of 5 mins one way. The winning teams from each pool were then taken, along with the best runner up overall, through to the semi finals. After a tense couple of games, with extra time and penalty shoot outs required, the team from Cippenham Primary were triumphant in the final against Parlaunt Park. This event has marked a significant step in the development of futsal in Slough's primary schools. The SSSN, working with the Berks and Bucks FA, xSport Coaching and MARS in the Community will continue to work to further develop the opportunities for children to take part in futsal in Slough.
